oh sillies.

Some things make me wonder why people are so idiotic. There is a bulletin going around on myspace. About running vice president Sarah Palin and her apparent book-ban list. Hah.

For one thing, I hate politics. They are ridiculous. The closer elections get the more annoying it all gets. C’mon, Kid Rock, NASCAR and the National Guard in an “America ROCKS” music video before movies?! Seriouslyyyy? I’m gonna start getting all whiny and stamping my foot here pretty soon.

Not to mention the monstrosity that is the movie "W." Yeesh. And multiple other new political movies coming out in the next month. All squeezed in before November hits. The list goes on of areas of our world affected by freakin’ politics. Which, hey, I get that choosing our next president is a big deal and everything, but damn.

Anyway, this bulletin on myspace is all about how much of a moron Palin is for banning these books. Okay, really? Really really! For one… you don’t just out of the blue decide to ban books all over again. I don’t think it would really be possible. For another thing: common sense! She’s not banning these books! WHOA.

I understand politics are dirty, but pick something more believable.

On a totally different side of that, I did look up some literature on books that were banned back in the day a WHY. Did you know Alice and Wonderland was banned in China because animals were portrayed too closely to humans and that wasn’t acceptable? Did you know people’s ideas were so radical that those in power didn’t want others to know? It astounds me. And it reminds me of the POWER in books. In the written word. In the putting-down of one’s thoughts and desires and arguments. I think its wonderful.

I almost wish I could fight for something like that. Could have been there to truly appreciate the beauty of books when they were there, burning, in front of me and against my will. Sure, I appreciate and love them now, but still. The movement in that is amazing. That something like paper, ink, words… could invoke so much emotion, anger, conflict, passion.

And it goes to show the naivety and closed-mindedness of people. Banning books because of their use of God’s name, references to ethnicity, religion, language, etc. Really, because something has a different thought process than you, you’re going to stifle it? Just burn it and no one will catch on? Words are like a virus, they spread and grow within people until they start to change from the inside out. Sure, its scary, but its not like we don’t have other thoughts. Its not like the moment I read “Goddammit” I’m going to immediately renounce God. Heh.

Oh, silly silly humans.
